Liverpool Submit First Formal Offer for Hugo Ekitike, Who’s Eager to Join Anfield
Liverpool have officially tabled a written offer for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, with the 23-year-old reportedly enthusiastic about making the move to Merseyside.
According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany, this marks the first concrete bid from Liverpool after a series of informal discussions with Frankfurt. He wrote on X:
“BREAKING | Eintracht Frankfurt have now received the first official written offer from Liverpool for Hugo Ekitike.
All previous figures had only been discussed verbally between the clubs. Negotiations are ongoing. There is still no agreement. Ekitike wants to join #LFC.”
Ekitike, who netted 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 games last season, has quickly risen to prominence in the Bundesliga with his speed, link-up play, and finishing since joining Frankfurt from PSG in January 2024.
Liverpool Step Up Interest in Ekitike
The move to submit a formal proposal signals clear intent from new manager Arne Slot and the Liverpool leadership, with The Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe also reporting that personal terms have already been agreed. Ekitike now appears poised to become the club’s next key signing of the summer.
Having already secured Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool are clearly aiming to boost their attacking output ahead of the new season.
Why Ekitike Over Isak?
Liverpool had been strongly linked to Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, but according to Fabrizio Romano, the financial demands for the Swedish striker have proven to be a stumbling block.
Ekitike offers a more affordable alternative, while also fitting the age profile Liverpool are targeting in their squad rebuild under Slot.
The French forward’s clear desire to join Liverpool is another major factor driving the move forward. Although Frankfurt may try to negotiate a higher fee, with the player pushing and Liverpool now officially involved, a deal looks increasingly likely.
His arrival could also influence potential departures—Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are both facing uncertain futures—while Ekitike is being tipped to take over the iconic No. 9 shirt at Anfield.
