Liverpool have reportedly made an official transfer offer for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, who has agreed to a six-year deal at Anfield.
The French forward has been strongly linked with Liverpool and other clubs following his impressive Bundesliga performance last season.
Ekitike was previously praised as “very special” by his former Reims coach Oscar Garcia, according to the Chronicle.
This morning, there have been several updates, including from David Ornstein of The Athletic, who confirmed Liverpool’s progress in the pursuit of Ekitike.
On social media, Fabrizio Romano and Fabrice Hawkins shared details:
Romano wrote: “Liverpool have submitted an official bid to Eintracht for Hugo Ekitike! Eintracht has asked for more and rejected the initial offer, but talks are ongoing. Ekitike has agreed to personal terms with Liverpool and is keen to join #LFC.”
Hawkins added: “Hugo Ekitike and Liverpool have agreed on a six-year contract. The player only wants to join Liverpool. In the last 24 hours, he rejected Manchester United, and Newcastle have withdrawn from negotiations. Discussions between Frankfurt and Liverpool are still underway.”
This appears quite definitive and is exciting news for Liverpool supporters, especially after the club has already secured Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez this summer.
With Liverpool having comfortably won the Premier League title in 2024/25, their aggressive activity in the transfer market shows they’re aiming to stay on top.
Ekitike seems like a fantastic signing, and LFC fans will be pleased to know he turned down fierce rivals Manchester United, as Hawkins noted.
Manchester United, who could have used a forward like Ekitike to improve on recent unsuccessful signings like Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, lost out to Liverpool’s more appealing project.
Under Arne Slot, Liverpool is building a squad that looks set to be strong favorites to win the title again next season.
