Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak has reportedly expressed his stance as the club aims to fend off Liverpool’s interest in the Sweden international.
At 25, Isak has recently attracted attention from Liverpool, who are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season, which they will begin as reigning champions.
Liverpool have already signed Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Freddie Woodman this summer, but their transfer activity is ongoing.
On July 15, David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that Liverpool have made a move to sign Isak, although no official bid has been submitted.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike has added pressure on Newcastle, who previously offered £70 million for the player—a bid that was rejected.
Despite the ongoing interest from Liverpool, Newcastle insist that Isak is not for sale, valuing him at around £120 million.
According to The Guardian, Isak currently earns approximately £150,000 per week, though plans to increase his wages were halted last summer due to Premier League financial regulations.
If Isak remains at Newcastle, it’s expected his loyalty would be rewarded with an improved contract. However, The Sun reports that negotiations may be delayed further because of the ongoing battle for Ekitike.
The report also states that the former club executives, Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, had promised Isak a new deal before their departure last summer.
Former sporting director Paul Mitchell made an early decision to postpone contract talks, which has reportedly disappointed Isak and his representatives.
As a result, concerns are rising that Isak might find it difficult to reject any formal offer from Liverpool, even though he is not currently seeking a transfer.
Isak is expected to be included in Newcastle’s squad for their pre-season friendly against Celtic in Glasgow on Saturday.
