Journalist says Liverpool have received a boost in their pursuit of Alexander Isak.

Liverpool have likely received behind-the-scenes encouragement—possibly via intermediaries—to go public with their interest in signing Alexander Isak.

That’s according to Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards, who is well-connected at Newcastle. As more details come to light about Liverpool’s interest in the Swedish striker, it appears the club is seriously exploring the possibility of a high-profile move.

Isak has impressed during his time at St James’ Park, so it’s no surprise a club of Liverpool’s stature is now pursuing him with a potentially massive offer.

Major reports yesterday, including one from The Athletic, revealed that Liverpool have informed Newcastle they might be prepared to pay up to £120 million for Isak.

Such a bid would make a major statement from the reigning Premier League champions, who have already made a strong start to the transfer window by signing Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez.

Is a move for Isak realistic?

It may seem ambitious to try to pry away such a key player from Newcastle, but Edwards suggests Liverpool wouldn’t have gone this far without receiving some indication of Isak’s willingness to make the move.

“Isak hasn’t told Newcastle he wants to leave—at least not yet,” Edwards wrote. “But he might, particularly if his interest has been piqued. Liverpool have clearly been given some encouragement—most likely through intermediaries—that Isak would be open to the move if Newcastle are willing to negotiate.”

Newcastle find themselves in a difficult position, particularly with Liverpool also reportedly considering a move for Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt—who could be a direct rival for the Magpies and a potential Isak replacement.

Isak or Ekitike to Anfield?

No matter how it unfolds, Liverpool supporters can feel optimistic about the club securing a top striker this summer.

Isak remains the dream signing thanks to his proven quality in the Premier League, but Ekitike is a promising alternative. The French forward has impressed in the Bundesliga and could be a smart option for both clubs if the Isak deal doesn’t materialize.
