Liverpool make surprise bid for Premier League striker who has scored 36 goals over the past two seasons.

Liverpool are actively searching for a new striker this summer, with Darwin Nunez likely to depart Anfield. While they’ve been linked to big names like Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, they may now be shifting focus toward a less high-profile but consistent performer.

Isak remains Liverpool’s top choice, but Newcastle reportedly won’t entertain offers below £150 million, making a move challenging. Ekitike could also slip away, as he may end up joining Isak at St James’ Park.

Sporting director Richard Hughes has drawn up a list of alternative targets, which includes another proven Premier League forward.

Liverpool initiate talks with Jean-Philippe Mateta’s camp

According to Foot Mercato, Liverpool have expressed interest in Jean-Philippe Mateta and have already made contact with his representatives. The 28-year-old Crystal Palace striker has scored 36 goals over the past two seasons and is being considered as a potential alternative to Isak and Ekitike.

However, landing Mateta might be just as difficult. With Crystal Palace potentially losing key players Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi this summer, the club may be reluctant to sell another star.

Although Mateta isn’t the flashiest name on the list, his impressive scoring form makes a compelling case. If Liverpool secure his signature, he could prove to be a valuable addition. Still, given the unfortunate passing of Diogo Jota, the Reds may look to bring in another striker as well to bolster their attacking depth.
