Liverpool fans have finally caught a first glimpse of a long-awaited addition, and the move is now officially in motion.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Giorgi Mamardashvili is en route to Merseyside, following his 2024/25 season with Valencia.
Romano posted a photo on X showing the Georgian goalkeeper and his agent, Levan Seturidze, aboard a private jet. The caption read:
“🚨✈️ Giorgi Mamardashvili and his agent Levan Seturidze, on their way to Liverpool. New addition for Arne Slot. 🛑🇬🇪”
That same image was first shared by Mamardashvili via his official X account (@Mamardashvili25), marking the first visual confirmation of his journey to join Liverpool and begin the next chapter of his career.
The 24-year-old joined Liverpool last summer from Valencia in a deal worth £25 million, with an additional £4 million in potential add-ons, as reported by The Athletic. However, he stayed with the Spanish side for the duration of the 2024/25 campaign.
Mamardashvili is now expected to become Alisson Becker’s backup for the upcoming season and will report for pre-season training under new head coach Arne Slot.
Slot’s Summer Reshuffle Continues
Mamardashvili is among several new arrivals set to meet their Liverpool teammates for the first time this summer.
Standing at 6’6”, the keeper earned high praise during his time at Valencia for his authoritative presence and ball-playing ability — traits Liverpool clearly targeted following the departure of Caoimhin Kelleher.
Slot has also added Freddie Woodman from Preston on a free transfer and 20-year-old Armin Pecsi from Puskas Akademia to strengthen the goalkeeping department.
With Kelleher moving to Brentford, Vitezslav Jaros joining Ajax, and Harvey Davies going on loan to Crawley Town, Mamardashvili’s arrival is a key move in Liverpool’s long-term goalkeeping strategy.
Major Changes in the Goalkeeping Setup
This summer has seen significant shifts in Liverpool’s goalkeeping structure. Claudio Taffarel’s exit and ongoing speculation about Alisson’s future have added further intrigue — potentially to Mamardashvili’s benefit.
