The transfer market is starting to heat up, and Liverpool could be one of the main beneficiaries this week.
Reports from Portuguese outlet A Bola suggest that Crystal Palace are close to securing a deal for Ousmane Diomande, a centre-back from Sporting Lisbon.
This potential signing strongly hints at the departure of Palace’s top defender, Marc Guehi, who has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool. Guehi’s current contract runs until the summer of 2026.
Liverpool Eyeing a Move for Marc Guehi
There’s clearly a chance for Liverpool to capitalize on this situation. The main sticking point, as always, is the fee.
Crystal Palace reportedly value Guehi at around £40–45 million—higher than Liverpool’s preferred range of £30–35 million. Despite this, there is growing confidence that an agreement can be reached, especially as Liverpool have re-entered talks this week.
Adding to the momentum, Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that Liverpool are in “advanced talks” to sign the 24-year-old.
If Diomande does join Palace, it could signal a greater willingness on their part to meet Liverpool halfway on the price.
Diomande’s Arrival Hints at Guehi’s Imminent Exit
A Bola also suggests that Palace might be looking to cash in on Guehi while they still can. With his contract winding down, the player reportedly wants a new challenge—and a move to the Premier League champions would be hard to resist.
Of course, there’s the question of competition at Anfield, particularly with Ibrahima Konaté currently partnering Virgil van Dijk. However, Konaté’s own contract situation is uncertain, which could open the door for Guehi to stake a claim for regular minutes.
It’s a rare opportunity—and one that may not come around again soon.
