Harvey Elliott delivered one of the most memorable goals of this summer’s European Under-21 Championship, just hours after reports emerged that a Premier League club had pulled out of a potential transfer for the Liverpool midfielder.
The 22-year-old scored twice on Wednesday as England edged out the Netherlands 2-1 to book a spot in the Euros final. Elliott has now scored four times in the tournament and has been one of England’s standout players, despite ongoing uncertainty about his future at Liverpool.
Reports suggest Liverpool have placed a £40 million valuation on the former Fulham youngster, which has discouraged Wolves from pursuing a deal. Journalist Dean Jones noted that while Wolves backed off due to the high price, Brighton are showing more interest at that figure.
Last month, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg stated that Elliott — once described by Jurgen Klopp as a “sensational talent” — is attracting significant attention from other clubs.
“Harvey Elliott could leave,” Plettenberg wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “There are numerous enquiries, and discussions are underway. Liverpool won’t block his exit if the right offer comes in.” Elliott remains under contract with Liverpool until 2027.
Since arriving at Anfield in 2019, Elliott has made limited starts. In the 2024/25 season, he featured in 28 matches across all competitions, but only started six games, including just one Premier League appearance.
Following Liverpool’s title celebrations at Anfield last month under new manager Arne Slot, Elliott shared an emotional post on Instagram, writing: “Memories for life. Thank you Reds.”
In an interview with LFCTV, Elliott hinted at a possible departure, acknowledging the uncertainty around his future: “You never know what’s going to happen.”
Reflecting on his role in Liverpool’s recent title win, Elliott noted that this season felt more meaningful than the 2019/20 triumph, when he was still a fringe player.
“I think I only made about four appearances that season,” he said. “This time, I’ve been more involved—part of the squads, travelling, being present for away games. It’s felt more special. I’m trying to enjoy every moment, because you never know what might come next.”
He concluded by emphasizing the importance of savoring success: “You can’t take these moments for granted. Celebrate and enjoy them while you can.”
