Real Madrid eye summer move for Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté after contract rejection
Real Madrid are reportedly considering a summer move for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté, following the Frenchman’s decision to turn down a new contract offer from the Reds.
Since his arrival in 2021, Konaté has been a regular presence in Liverpool’s backline. However, sources close to the agent network told CaughtOffside that the 26-year-old’s future at Anfield is now uncertain.
Insiders familiar with Liverpool’s wage structure suggest Konaté is demanding a guaranteed salary of £200,000 per week. The club’s current offer relies heavily on performance-based incentives, which has left the player dissatisfied.
The situation has reportedly attracted interest from top European clubs, particularly Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. While Liverpool are reluctant to sell, they may be forced to consider offers as Konaté enters the final year of his contract.
Liverpool are believed to value him at around £40 million, though sources suggest they might accept a lower fee, potentially around £25 million, especially if Madrid push for a deal.
Having already seen Trent Alexander-Arnold depart for Real Madrid, Liverpool will be wary of losing another key player. The club have recently secured new deals for stars like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, and would ideally like to keep Konaté as a central figure in Arne Slot’s plans.
Still, unless Konaté lowers his wage demands, a departure could be on the cards — especially with interest from elite clubs growing. If he does leave, Liverpool may look to Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi as a potential replacement, according to The Telegraph.
