Atletico Madrid have reportedly made Liverpool’s Andy Robertson a key target for this summer’s transfer window.
The La Liga side may look to challenge Liverpool’s willingness to keep the Scottish defender, especially with Milos Kerkez expected to arrive at Anfield. The Hungarian international is anticipated to take over Kostas Tsimikas’ role as Robertson’s backup.
Robertson open to La Liga switch
According to Fabrizio Romano, Robertson is said to be interested in a move to Spain, with early discussions already underway between his camp and Atletico Madrid.
Atletico prioritize Robertson over Hernandez
Romano further revealed that Atletico Madrid consider Robertson their primary target at left-back, even ranking him ahead of AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez. Despite this, Liverpool continue to hold Robertson in high regard, regardless of the potential signing of Kerkez.
Tsimikas more likely to leave
While Robertson has faced criticism for his form in the 2024/25 season and his contract is set to expire next summer, the more likely departure seems to be Tsimikas. The Greek defender hasn’t cemented his spot and may be the more logical choice to move on.
Although Robertson is among the club’s top earners, and this may be Liverpool’s last chance to sell him for a significant fee, his experience and reliability still make him the standout left-back at the club. Letting him go without a clear push from the player could disrupt squad stability.
Robertson prepared for competition
With Kerkez potentially joining soon, Robertson appears ready to rise to the challenge. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said, “When you play for a big club like Liverpool you expect challenges, you expect to have competition.” These comments reflect a player who is still motivated to fight for his place, not one looking to walk away.
Unless Robertson strongly pushes for a move to Spain, Liverpool are unlikely to rush his exit, valuing his leadership and consistency at the back.
