Journalist Pete O’Rourke commented on the situation, stating:
“A lot would need to fall into place for this move to happen,” he said. “If Luis Diaz were to leave—whether for Barcelona, Saudi Arabia, or another club—Liverpool would definitely pursue a left-winger.
“Gordon nearly joined Liverpool last summer when Newcastle were under pressure to comply with PSR regulations.
“Liverpool have continued to monitor him and are still very interested.
“However, Newcastle don’t want to let him go. He’s a vital part of Eddie Howe’s squad and signed a long-term contract last October after speculation about his future.
“To persuade them to sell, it would take a bid of £75–80 million. It’s a tough deal to pull off, especially now that Newcastle’s financial situation has improved with Champions League qualification, easing any need to offload key players.”
Liverpool’s longstanding interest in Gordon
At just 24, Gordon has drawn considerable attention for his energy, goal-scoring ability, and tactical flexibility.
Liverpool are in the market for wide players who can track back defensively and contribute to fast transitions—qualities that Gordon consistently demonstrates.
