Liverpool could potentially be on the lookout for a replacement for Mohamed Salah in the immediate future but one of their potential targets looks unlikely to arrive at Anfield
Thomas Frank has laughed off suggestions that Arsenal or Liverpool could make a move for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo in January.
The Cameroon star is in the midst of a stunning season in West London having scored 10 goals and notched two assists in the Premier League alone. The 25-year-old has been linked with a host of the league’s giants including Arsenal and Liverpool.
But Bees boss Frank is determined to keep hold of his star man having issued a warning to any clubs interested in him. Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s clash with the Gunners, he said: “Those clubs in January [laughs]
I would say ‘good luck’! We love Bryan, he loves playing here. He’s had a fantastic season so nothing will happen.”
Mbeumo joined Brentford from French side Troyes in the summer of 2019. He has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the side, scoring 60 goals.
Mbeumo has just 18 months remaining on his deal at the Gtech Community Stadium. Ex-Liverpool star Emile Heskey has already suggested the forward as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, who could leave Anfield for nothing in just six months’ time.
Speaking to FourFourTwo last month, he said: “Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo is a player I like a lot. He’s fantastic on the ball, can beat a man and he scores a lot of goals for a team that doesn’t compete right at the top end of the league.
“In a top side, he could score loads of goals. It’s difficult with Mo Salah because who else is giving you those numbers? We want more from Mo at times, but when someone is giving you 20 goals a season, pretty much every season, with 30-plus goal contributions, it’s something special.
“Nobody else in the league is giving you those numbers, in terms of both goals and assists. So Liverpool have a huge job on their hands in finding someone who can replace Salah when he leaves – whenever that might be.”
