Liverpool are actively searching for a new central defender, with Jarell Quansah expected to depart this summer. The young defender is reportedly close to sealing a €40 million move to Bayer Leverkusen, prompting Liverpool to identify Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi as their top target.
Guehi, who has impressed with his performances and leadership at Palace, is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle and Tottenham. However, the 24-year-old is said to be strongly focused on securing a transfer to Liverpool.
According to Football Insider, Guehi has confided in friends about his desire to move to Anfield. He previously dismissed the idea of joining Newcastle, believing he can aim higher—a stance he held even when they submitted multiple bids in 2024 after winning the Carabao Cup.
Guehi is reportedly ready to turn down all other suitors to maximise his chances of joining Liverpool, where he would likely compete with Ibrahima Konaté for a starting role next to Virgil van Dijk in new manager Arne Slot’s defence.
With just a year left on his current contract, Liverpool may be able to sign him at a reduced fee. Guehi’s clear preference for a move to the reigning Premier League champions also strengthens Liverpool’s negotiating position.
While Liverpool are currently focused on finalising deals for Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez, Guehi is expected to become a top priority once those transfers are completed.
