Paul Merson forecasts the margin of Liverpool’s win over Tottenham
Liverpool are being tipped to claim a comfortable Premier League win this weekend, with Paul Merson forecasting a victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
The Reds head into Sunday’s clash eager to bounce back after a frustrating 1-0 loss to Galatasaray in the Champions League, a result that leaves plenty to do ahead of the second leg at Anfield next week.
Despite that setback in Istanbul, Merson believes Tottenham are in even worse shape, echoing the thoughts of Chris Sutton. Speaking to Sportskeeda ahead of the match, the former Arsenal midfielder insisted Liverpool are expected to win comfortably.
Merson commented: “It’s just a question of by how many goals Liverpool will win! How long is Igor Tudor going to last? Honestly, who would even want the Spurs job right now?”
He predicts a 3-0 win for Liverpool.
The ex-England international also warned that pressure on Tottenham’s interim manager could intensify if they suffer another defeat. Tudor is already under scrutiny after a difficult start to his tenure, with many insiders seeing his position as “untenable,” though he is expected to still be in charge for the trip to Merseyside.
Merson added: “Spurs will likely wait until after the Liverpool game before deciding Tudor’s future. No one expects them to win here. If they do lose, I’d be surprised if he’s still in charge for the crucial relegation clash with Nottingham Forest next weekend.”
Despite Liverpool’s recent inconsistency, especially in the loss to Galatasaray where chances were created but not converted, Merson believes their quality will shine through.
He concluded: “I expect Slot to field his strongest team. Liverpool should be able to turn it around against Galatasaray in the second leg, but this weekend, a solid league result is key. My prediction: Liverpool 3-0 Tottenham Hotspur.”
