Liverpool have been tipped to claim a comfortable Premier League win this weekend, with Paul Merson predicting Arne Slot’s side will beat Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

The Reds go into Sunday’s clash aiming to respond after their frustrating 1–0 loss to Galatasaray in the Champions League, a result that leaves them with work to do in the second leg at Anfield next week.

Despite that setback in Istanbul, the former Arsenal midfielder believes Tottenham arrive on Merseyside in even worse form – a view also shared by Chris Sutton.

Speaking to Sportskeeda ahead of the match, Merson said he expects Liverpool to win comfortably. He said it is more about how many goals Liverpool could score and questioned how long Igor Tudor will remain in charge at Spurs, adding that the job may not currently appeal to many managers.

The former England international also suggested the pressure on Tottenham’s interim boss could intensify if the visitors suffer another defeat at Anfield. The Croatian manager has already faced strong scrutiny following a difficult start to his tenure.

Many within football reportedly see the 47-year-old’s position as increasingly difficult, though the expectation is that he will still lead the team when Spurs travel to Merseyside this weekend.

Merson believes that could quickly change. According to the 57-year-old, Tottenham may wait until after the Liverpool game before deciding Tudor’s future, as few expect Spurs to win the match.

He went further to suggest that a defeat could even cost the manager his job. Merson said he would be surprised if Tudor remains in charge for the following weekend’s crucial relegation clash against Nottingham Forest should Tottenham lose at Anfield.

Liverpool have not looked at their sharpest in recent weeks, particularly in Turkey where they created chances but failed to convert them. However, Merson still expects their quality to shine through.

He also believes Slot will field his strongest lineup and backed Liverpool to overturn the deficit against Galatasaray in the second leg next week.

Even so, he feels securing a strong finish in the league may be the club’s most realistic objective this season.
