“Doesn’t look good” – Arne Slot delivers the Wataru Endo injury update every Liverpool fan feared

Arne Slot fears Wataru Endo may have suffered a serious injury during Liverpool’s win over Sunderland, and expects the midfielder to be sidelined “for quite a long time.”

Forced into action at emergency right-back due to multiple absences, the 33-year-old got his foot caught in the turf while attempting to clear a dangerous ball into the box. Endo tried to continue but was eventually unable to carry on and was stretchered off, looking visibly distressed. Joe Gomez, making his return, replaced him.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Slot admitted the news doesn’t look positive, while also praising Endo’s mentality for trying to battle through the pain.

Slot said:

“His injury doesn’t look good. I expect him to be out unfortunately for quite a long time.

“In the right full-back position we have a lot of problems, but what a mentality of him as well. He stayed on the pitch and defended one more set piece. That tells you all about the mentality of the team and him, and that’s why we won the game as well.”

It was a heartbreaking moment for Endo, especially after receiving his first Premier League start of the season. Despite playing out of position, he delivered a strong performance against Sunderland winger Nilson Angulo. According to Sofascore, he won seven of his 12 duels, completed 19 of 22 passes, and contributed seven clearances and two tackles.

Liverpool’s right-back issues this season have only worsened. Conor Bradley remains out for months with a serious injury, while Jeremie Frimpong and Gomez have already suffered multiple absences this campaign.

Although Gomez has now returned, Slot’s fears over Endo’s injury have taken the shine off what was otherwise an excellent win at the Stadium of Light.

A clearer injury timeline is expected in the coming days, with fans hoping for the best possible outcome from what looked like a nasty ankle problem.
