Mohamed Salah reportedly receptive to Saudi transfer as Al-Ittihad begin negotiations

 

 

Saudi Pro League heavyweights Al Ittihad have reportedly begun talks with the agent of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, once again fuelling speculation around one of football’s most persistent transfer stories.

According to Foot Mercato, the Egyptian forward is now said to be far more open to a move to Saudi Arabia, representing a major change in attitude compared to previous transfer windows.

Even though Salah signed a huge new deal with Liverpool until 2027 after a brilliant 2024–25 season, reports claim his stance has shifted. The 33-year-old had previously been focused on staying in the Premier League, but his agent Ramy Abbas Issa is now believed to be actively engaging with Al Ittihad.

The Jeddah-based club are eager to bring in a global superstar to lead their next phase, and see Salah as the perfect marquee signing capable of pushing them back to the top of the Saudi Pro League.

Talk of a possible exit has grown louder amid a difficult 2025–26 season at Anfield. Liverpool are reportedly struggling in the league and currently sit sixth, while tensions are said to have risen after Salah clashed publicly with head coach Arne Slot, following three straight matches on the bench.

Although he has since returned to the starting lineup, there are increasing suggestions that the relationship behind the scenes remains tense.

Salah has previously hinted that someone inside the club may no longer want him at Liverpool, which has only added to speculation that the Reds could be considering cashing in.

From Liverpool’s point of view, this summer could be their last chance to secure a massive fee for Salah — while also freeing up his enormous wages.

If he does leave, Salah would depart as a true Liverpool icon.

Since arriving from Roma in 2017, the “Egyptian King” has been the heartbeat of Liverpool’s modern era, recording 251 goals and 119 assists in 426 appearances across all competitions.

He has broken countless club and Premier League records, cementing himself as not only one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players, but also one of the Premier League’s all-time greats.

Last season, he was the key man in Liverpool’s Premier League title win, scoring 29 goals and 18 assists in 38 league matches. Across all competitions, he ended the campaign with 34 goals and 23 assists, with many believing it was a Ballon d’Or-worthy year.

Over nine years at Anfield, Salah has helped Liverpool win the Champions League, two Premier League titles, two League Cups, and the FA Cup, while also becoming the club’s all-time leading Premier League goalscorer.

And if this truly is the final chapter of his Liverpool journey, it would be a farewell worthy of a genuine footballing legend.
