The Premier League clash was full of drama. Dominik Szoboszlai fired Liverpool ahead in the second half with a brilliant free kick, but City fought back through goals from Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland to claim all three points. Late chaos followed as Szoboszlai was sent off, while VAR also ruled out a Raya Chekri goal in the same phase of play.

With City’s title hopes hanging in the balance before kick-off, the win was huge. A defeat would have left Arsenal nine points clear, but Guardiola’s side remain within six points of the leaders.

After full-time, City’s celebrations reportedly became so loud that music could be heard during Liverpool boss Arne Slot’s post-match interview with Sky Sports. Keane was unimpressed, saying City were entitled to celebrate but should have shown more respect by turning the music down during press duties.

Bernardo Silva later admitted the squad believed the title race would have been almost over if they had lost, explaining they felt they had to win. Guardiola responded with a joke, claiming the players hadn’t shared that view with him and insisting he was “more optimistic” than they were.

City’s next league match is at home to Fulham, while Arsenal face Brentford away. Guardiola’s side will be aiming to stay close to the Gunners ahead of their league showdown on 18 April, with the two teams also set to meet in the Carabao Cup final on 22 March.
