Johan Lange Breaks Silence on January Transfer Window Decisions

Tottenham’s technical director Johan Lange has opened up on the club’s cautious approach during the January transfer window, admitting that an unexpected injury crisis played a major role in shaping their strategy.

Speaking on the club’s transfer plans, Lange revealed that Spurs were caught off guard by the scale of their injury problems, with as many as seven players sidelined at a critical point in the season. Despite the pressure to act, he insisted the club chose discipline over desperation.

“We didn’t anticipate going into January with seven injuries, which obviously changes things throughout the window,” Lange explained. “It’s very important, although highly frustrating, to remain disciplined.”

Lange also emphasised that Tottenham resisted the temptation to make panic signings, arguing that short-term solutions rarely align with the club’s long-term vision. With several key players set to return from injury, he believes patience will ultimately pay off.

“The injured players are coming back, and while making a stress purchase might give you a nice immediate feeling, there’s no point in signing players who can’t help us in either the short or long term,” he added.
