Newcastle Open Probe After Disturbing Liverpool Match Footage Surfaces

Newcastle United have opened an internal probe after a viral clip appeared to show their players leaving a young mascot alone on the pitch before their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool.

Eddie Howe’s side had initially threatened an upset at Anfield after Anthony Gordon put them ahead with a brilliant finish. It was the former Everton winger’s first Premier League goal from open play in more than a year, but Newcastle’s advantage was short-lived.

Hugo Ekitike struck twice in quick succession to swing the momentum before half-time, with Florian Wirtz and Ibrahima Konate later completing a dominant performance by Arne Slot’s Liverpool.
However, the match result was overshadowed by events before kick-off. Footage circulating online shows the young mascot standing beside captain Kieran Trippier before Newcastle’s players ran off to remove their jackets, leaving her behind on the pitch.

The girl then drifted towards the centre circle before a Liverpool staff member guided her back towards the away side, though the clip ends with her still standing alone.

The incident sparked anger among Newcastle supporters, who flooded social media with criticism and calls for accountability.
One fan described the situation as “really bad,” while a supporters’ group labelled it “deeply disappointing” and urged the club to contact the girl and her family to resolve the matter. Others also criticised the lack of care shown.

According to The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, Newcastle have acknowledged the issue and are taking steps to address it. The journalist revealed that the club is working to make amends with the mascot and her family, a claim later supported by a Newcastle supporters’ group, who confirmed the matter is being handled and action is being taken.
