Liverpool’s behind-the-scenes defensive plans may be starting to take form, with Sky Sports Italia reporting that the Reds have made an initial check on Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries.

The contact is described as tentative rather than concrete, but it underlines Liverpool’s increasing focus on potential movement in the right-back market. Dumfries, 29, has been a vital presence for Inter since arriving from PSV Eindhoven in 2021, playing a significant role in their domestic and European achievements.

This season, however, has not been straightforward for the Dutch international. An ankle injury suffered in November disrupted his momentum, limiting both his availability and consistency during a packed fixture list. While he has featured in Serie A and European competitions, Inter have carefully managed his minutes since his return.

Renowned for his ability to deliver goals and assists from wide areas, Dumfries’ attacking output from wing-back positions has long drawn interest from Premier League clubs.
