Tottenham reportedly seal deal for Premier League breakout star as third January signing, while a possible Kolo Muani reversal comes into focus.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on their third signing of the January transfer window after reaching an agreement to bring in a highly rated young prospect from West Ham United. At the same time, uncertainty continues to cloud Randal Kolo Muani’s future in north London.

It has been a frustrating and largely disappointing campaign for Spurs, who remain stuck in the lower half of the Premier League table, far below expectations. Optimism was high when Thomas Frank arrived last summer, but the Danish coach has struggled to spark a real turnaround in either results or performances. In many ways, Tottenham still resemble the team Ange Postecoglou left behind.

While domestic form has been poor, Spurs have found some consolation in Europe. Progressing to the Champions League knockout stage has offered a rare bright spot in an otherwise turbulent season. However, early eliminations from both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup have only intensified the club’s growing sense of frustration.

With pressure mounting, Tottenham’s recruitment team have moved swiftly in the winter market. Conor Gallagher and Souza have already arrived as Frank attempts to rebuild a squad weakened by injuries and limited depth. The club has explored additional options, but potential moves for Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta now appear unlikely. Even so, another attacking signing could still materialise before the deadline, especially with Kolo Muani’s situation unresolved. Reports indicate at least one more deal is nearing completion.

According to Football Insider, Spurs have now “agreed a deal” to sign West Ham youngster Elisha Sowunmi, regarded as one of the Hammers’ most promising talents. Tottenham have tracked the 18-year-old for more than a year and have beaten competition from Celtic and Club Brugge to secure his signature.

The report also claims Celtic pushed strongly for Sowunmi, competing with an unnamed Premier League top-six club for his services. That club has since been identified as Tottenham, who have now moved ahead of the Scottish champions to finalise the transfer. Spurs view Sowunmi as a long-term investment and an important part of their youth development pathway under Frank.

Focus is also shifting to potential departures. Another Football Insider report, citing journalist Pete O’Rourke, suggests Tottenham could now be reconsidering Kolo Muani’s role and may even contemplate ending his loan spell early.

“There are long-term admirers of Mateta,” O’Rourke explained. “It would likely depend on departures at Tottenham. If Kolo Muani were to end his loan early and possibly return to Juventus, that could open the door for Spurs to accelerate their interest in Mateta.

“There are many variables. Kolo Muani scored against Eintracht Frankfurt as Spurs reached the last 16, but Juventus are actively searching for a striker and have already missed out on Mateta. He previously enjoyed a successful spell there, so he fits their profile.”
O’Rourke added that Tottenham’s stance may be evolving. “Spurs were previously reluctant to let players leave, but with Mateta now under consideration, they could become more flexible. Kolo Muani hasn’t been a regular starter or a consistent goalscorer, so a return to Juventus might suit all parties.”

Such a move could pave the way for Tottenham to pursue Mateta, but with so many factors involved, the situation remains uncertain.

As the deadline approaches, Spurs face a crucial few days. Another signing appears imminent, but any late exits could ultimately shape whether Thomas Frank secures the attacking reinforcements he still needs as Tottenham attempt to rescue an underwhelming season.
