Curtis Jones tipped for shock January switch to Liverpool rivals

 

 

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones is reportedly attracting serious interest from within the Premier League and could still be on the move before the January transfer window closes.

The 24-year-old played a key role in Liverpool’s 2024–25 title-winning campaign, featuring 46 times, and has continued to be a regular this season, starting nine of the Reds’ last 12 matches across all competitions.

However, despite his consistent involvement, Jones has not yet agreed a new long-term contract. With just 18 months left on his current deal, his situation has caught the attention of rival clubs.

Tottenham were previously linked with a January approach, but they instead moved to sign Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid. Now, with the window nearing its end, reports suggest Chelsea have been alerted to Jones’ potential availability and are closely monitoring developments, according to Simon Phillips.

Chelsea are currently short of options in central midfield, with Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Andrey Santos the only natural players in that role under Liam Rosenior. As a result, the Blues are actively searching for reinforcements.

The Telegraph reports Chelsea are prioritising a midfielder with proven Premier League experience. Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz has been strongly linked, though he has struggled for game time while on loan at Nottingham Forest. A sensational return for N’Golo Kante has also been discussed, but Turkish side Fenerbahce appear to be leading the race.

Providing an update on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Fenerbahce are pushing hard to finalise a deal for Kante from Al-Ittihad. According to Romano, personal terms with the midfielder are close to being agreed, with only minor details left to resolve.

Romano added that Fenerbahce are accelerating talks after becoming aware that several Premier League clubs recently contacted Kante’s representatives to explore a possible move. Despite that interest, the Turkish club remain confident the player wants to join them and believe the transfer is nearing completion, pending final agreement between the clubs.
