Liverpool’s 3–2 loss at Bournemouth has sparked fresh debate around Andy Robertson, after Arne Slot was pressed on the vice-captain’s future and chose not to comment.

The question carried extra weight given the chaotic nature of the game and the growing speculation linking Robertson with Tottenham — talk that shows no sign of fading.

Slot’s response was direct and familiar.
“What do you think my answer is going to be? Have I ever said anything about transfers in front of these microphones?” he said.
“My answer is always the same and it’s quite boring to always give the same answer… we don’t talk about transfers in public.”

Slot’s stance offered no clues either way, but it reinforced Liverpool’s refusal to calm the situation with public hints or briefings, even while the matter is clearly active.

That silence is notable with Spurs reportedly working on a deal, as highlighted by David Ornstein, and with Robertson himself having admitted he wants regular game time.

His numbers from the second half were solid: 35 touches, 22 accurate passes from 28, one key pass, a successful ground duel and an expected assists figure of 0.06. Hardly the output of someone who no longer has a role to play, particularly in a season where availability has shaped team selection.

That’s why the uncertainty around Robertson’s future feels so unsettling. Slot may continue to shut down transfer talk in public, but Robertson’s Bournemouth cameo was a timely reminder that he remains a useful option when called upon.
