Liverpool supporters are still coming to terms with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decision to join Real Madrid last summer — but another gut-wrenching twist could be on the horizon.

The dream move to the Bernabéu hasn’t unfolded as planned. After spending two decades at Anfield, Alexander-Arnold sought a fresh challenge in Spain, yet injuries have disrupted his progress and whispers of an early departure have been growing for weeks. Now, a new report has floated an unthinkable idea: Manchester City.

After already missing out on Marc Guehi to City, Liverpool could face an even harsher blow. TEAMtalk claims the England international is currently being “assessed” by Pep Guardiola’s side, who are actively searching for a new right-back ahead of the summer window.

The report suggests frustration within Real Madrid has prompted intermediaries to sound out the possibility of a sensational transfer. While no official bid has been made and Alexander-Arnold still believes he has a future in Spain, the concern is that Madrid may not share that belief.

Any deal would command an enormous fee — but if there’s one club capable of matching Madrid’s demands, it’s Manchester City. The very idea is painful for Liverpool fans, yet there is now tangible indication that it cannot be completely dismissed.

From the player’s perspective, however, it would be a move many would never forgive.

For now, Liverpool supporters can hold their nerve. Discussions remain preliminary. But if his situation in Madrid fails to improve, this once-unthinkable transfer may not be as impossible as it sounds.
