Tottenham Enter Talks for Surprising Liverpool Star as David Ornstein Reveals Shocking Update

 

 

In one of the more surprising twists of the January transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on a shock move to sign one of Liverpool’s most seasoned players.

Spurs manager Thomas Frank had promised last month that this window would be “definitely busy” for the club.

“We will definitely be in the market, no doubt about that,” said Frank, who has faced a challenging first season in North London. “We want to secure signings as early as possible, just like always.”

So far, Spurs have completed the signings of England international Conor Gallagher for £35 million and 19-year-old left-back Souza from Santos for around £19 million. They have also been linked to several other targets, including highly-rated Las Palmas left-back Mika Marmol. However, the focus now appears to be on Liverpool defender Andy Robertson.

Reports from The Athletic suggest that negotiations are progressing. The club had initially earmarked Robertson as a summer target but have accelerated plans to bolster Frank’s squad immediately. According to Florian Plettenberg, a verbal agreement is already in place between Liverpool and Spurs, with talks ongoing for a potential January transfer.

The 31-year-old Scotland international, who is in the final year of his contract at Anfield, was a key starter under Arne Slot when Liverpool won the Premier League in May. However, he has started just four league games this season following the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

Back in June, Robertson had also attracted interest from Atletico Madrid, who reportedly saw him as a priority signing, while the player was said to be keen on a move to Spain. Initial discussions between Robertson and Atletico had taken place.

Before the season began, Robertson spoke candidly about his first-team prospects amid potential new arrivals at Liverpool:

“I think at any big club, the team always evolves. We’re at the top now, having won the league, and it’s important the club keeps improving and finding ways to do that. The players we’re linked with are younger, exciting talents. When you play for a big club like Liverpool, you expect challenges and competition. I’ve always faced that, as has everyone in their own positions.”
