“What I expect…” – Arne Slot addresses Liverpool’s January transfer plans

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has strongly suggested the club will remain quiet in the January transfer window, with no major incoming deals expected.

Addressing the media on Friday, Slot admitted he anticipates the winter window passing without any new signings at Anfield. Journalist David Lynch relayed the comments on X, quoting Slot as saying: “That’s what I expect, yeah,” when asked whether Liverpool would end January without adding to the squad.

The Reds were heavily active in the summer, investing significant sums in the arrivals of Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez. However, despite that spending spree, the season has yet to fully catch fire, making a cautious approach in January understandable.

Rather than rushing back into the market, Slot’s focus appears to be on helping the current group settle and build momentum in the second half of the campaign.

At present, Liverpool do not have any glaring gaps in the squad, and delaying further recruitment until the summer may prove the smarter option. January transfers often come with added difficulty, and the club is likely keen to assess how key situations unfold over the coming months.

Mohamed Salah’s performances for the remainder of the season could play a major role in future planning, while Ibrahima Konaté is also approaching the final stages of his contract. Replacements may eventually be required, but for now, no immediate decisions appear to have been made.
