£100m tug-of-war as Liverpool and Man United go head-to-head for Premier League standout

 

 

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky van de Ven has been the subject of growing transfer speculation in recent months. Despite the interest, Spurs are keen to secure his future and are pushing to reward him with a new long-term contract.

The north London club has already opened discussions with the defender’s representatives and has made retaining him a major priority. The proposed deal would reportedly double the 24-year-old’s wages, putting him on par with key figures like Cristian Romero and Conor Gallagher.

However, according to TEAMtalk, both Liverpool and Manchester United are monitoring the situation closely. Any move would come at a hefty cost, with Spurs believed to be holding out for around £100 million.

Liverpool, in particular, are expected to strengthen at the back. With Ibrahima Konaté set to become a free agent at the end of the season and no contract extension agreed, the Reds could be forced into the market. Van de Ven fits the profile perfectly, having already proven himself in the Premier League. His pace makes him especially suited to Liverpool’s high defensive line, having clocked the fastest speed of the 2024/25 season at 37.12 km/h during a sprint with Alejandro Garnacho. The chance to play for one of the world’s biggest clubs alongside fellow Dutchman Virgil van Dijk could also be appealing.

Manchester United are also eager to bolster their defence as they aim to compete for major honours in the coming years, and Van de Ven is seen as an ideal option.

Still, it remains to be seen whether the defender would reject interest from Liverpool or United in favour of committing his future to Tottenham. For now, a £100 million move appears unlikely in the short term.
