Reports from Brazil suggest that Liverpool are preparing to make an official bid for a Premier League midfielder already familiar to the club’s transfer team. During much of 2023, the Reds were heavily linked with Andre Trindade, then at Fluminense (with whom he won the Copa Libertadores that year). However, it was Wolves who eventually secured his move to England the following season.

While Gregg Evans of The Athletic noted on Tuesday that Liverpool are unlikely to sign anyone this month “unless a suitable market opportunity arises,” Brazilian outlet RTI Esporte claims that sporting director Richard Hughes is targeting the 24-year-old. Wolves are reportedly expected to demand at least €30m (£26.2m) for Andre, and relegation from the Premier League could make it difficult for the club to retain him. Wolves also hope his inclusion in Brazil’s World Cup squad would boost his market value.

The 24-year-old is reportedly attracting interest not just from Liverpool, but from other English clubs, as well as sides in Italy, Turkey, and France. Despite Wolves’ struggles this season, Andre has stood out as a key performer. Former Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards described him as “indispensable” and “one of the best number 6s in the league,” and his underlying statistics would surely appeal to Liverpool’s recruitment team.

According to Fotmob, the Brazilian ranks highly across multiple metrics in the Premier League—not only defensively but in his overall contributions. Although Liverpool already have strong midfield options, including Wataru Endo, Andre could offer a natural number 6 option entering his prime years. Endo’s limited Premier League minutes this season (just 43) indicate that he is regarded more as a backup.

These rumors should be taken with caution until confirmed by trusted sources, but given Liverpool’s prior interest, the latest reports may excite Kopites who see Andre’s proven adaptability to the English top flight.
