Chiesa Ready to Make Drastic Move to Secure Liverpool Departure This Month

 

 

Federico Chiesa is reportedly ready to take extreme steps to end his Liverpool spell this January, but a major obstacle stands in the way.

The winger joined the Reds from Juventus in the summer of 2024, yet has struggled to secure a regular place under Arne Slot. Despite featuring in 16 of Liverpool’s 22 Premier League matches this season, only one of those appearances came as a starter, with the rest from the bench.

With Italy still fighting for a place at the 2026 World Cup through March’s European play-offs, Chiesa knows he must be playing consistently to boost his chances of making Gennaro Gattuso’s squad.

According to Calcio Mercato, Juventus are eager to bring him back as they push for Champions League qualification, currently sitting fifth in Serie A. However, a return to Turin is complicated by Liverpool’s stance — the Reds want a permanent sale, not a loan.

Juventus, on the other hand, are seeking an initial loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the 2025/26 season. Liverpool are said to value the 28-year-old between £13m and £17m.

To help force a move, Chiesa is reportedly willing to accept a pay cut from his £6.5m annual salary. Still, conflicting reports in Italy claim Juve are now focusing on other targets, including Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and Atalanta’s Daniel Maldini.

La Gazzetta dello Sport states that Juventus are in talks with Palace over a €33m (£28.8m) deal for Mateta, structured as a loan with a mandatory purchase if they qualify for Europe, though agent commissions remain a sticking point.

Chiesa, under contract at Liverpool until 2028, previously enjoyed a successful spell at Juventus between 2020 and 2024, helping the club lift two Coppa Italia titles.
