Slot’s position at Anfield, initially secure as Jurgen Klopp’s successor, has become increasingly precarious. The main concern is the growing discontent among fans over the post-Klopp project, with Slot at its helm. He will have opportunities to regain momentum in upcoming matches against Marseille, Bournemouth, Qarabag, Newcastle, and a key home clash with Manchester City on February 8.
Xabi Alonso’s recent exit from Real Madrid adds an extra layer of intrigue. Alonso, once high on Liverpool’s shortlist to replace Klopp, could now be available, though it’s unclear whether he’s ready for a new challenge.
Fans have voiced frustration over Slot’s leadership. “The tide has turned on Arne Slot – not sacking him now is just delaying the inevitable,” one said. Another added: “Arne Slot really denied us an easy back-to-back Premier League titles.”
With Liverpool currently in the top four but closely pursued by Manchester United and Chelsea, Slot must prioritize winning matches by any means necessary. While Champions League qualification is the minimum expectation, failing to maintain results would mark a steep decline for the manager who became just the fifth to win the Premier League in his first season, especially after a £400 million summer investment.
