Liverpool’s immediate focus remains on domestic competitions, but a carefully phrased update has quietly clarified Mo Salah’s reintegration into the squad in the coming days. Speaking at the AXA Training Centre ahead of Burnley’s visit to Anfield, Arne Slot confirmed that the No.11 is expected back in Merseyside next week following his Africa Cup of Nations duties.

The Egyptian star will first play in the third-place playoff against Nigeria on Saturday, after Egypt were eliminated in the semi-finals by Senegal.

“Next week,” Slot said when asked about Salah’s return, during his pre-Burnley press conference. The Dutch coach emphasized that talks are already underway regarding expectations on both sides as Salah transitions back to club football.

“We are in discussions with him—what is expected of him there, and what is expected here,” Slot explained. “But first, he has a game on Saturday, and next week he will be back with us.”

This comes after another disappointing AFCON campaign, with Sadio Mane once again denying Salah international glory. The former Liverpool forward expressed sympathy, saying: “It is not easy for him—but still best of luck.”

Slot stressed the importance of having the 33-year-old back in the squad. “Mo has been so crucial for this club, for me, so I’m happy he’s returning. Even if I had 15 attackers, I would still be pleased to have him back.”
