Real Madrid Plotting Record-Breaking €500m Move as Jürgen Klopp Emerges as Dream Appointment
Real Madrid are reportedly preparing a sensational move for Jürgen Klopp this summer, with the German identified as the club’s dream appointment.
The reports follow the sudden departure of Xabi Alonso, who stepped down on Monday after just seven months in charge. His exit was confirmed a day after Madrid’s heavy defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final. Former defender Álvaro Arbeloa, who has managed the club’s B team since 2005, has taken over on an interim basis but suffered a shock 3-2 Copa del Rey loss to Albacete in midweek.
Madrid plan to install a permanent head coach in the summer, and president Florentino Pérez is said to be targeting Klopp, who has been away from frontline management since ending his legendary reign at Liverpool. Now 58, Klopp recently returned to football in a strategic role as Head of Global Soccer for the Red Bull Group.
However, Pérez is believed to be determined to lure him back to the dugout. Spanish outlet Fichajes claims Klopp’s leadership, experience in elite dressing rooms and distinctive, high-energy style make him an ideal fit for a squad brimming with attacking talent.
Los Blancos already boast a glittering lineup featuring Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior and Jude Bellingham, but Pérez is reportedly planning an even bolder move — a blockbuster bid for Erling Haaland. The ambition is to unite Haaland with Mbappé and create the most devastating attack in world football.
According to the report, such a pairing would not only guarantee goals and trophies but also “define an era” commercially and globally. Yet the price would be staggering. Sky Sports Germany’s Patrick Berger estimates the total package for Haaland could reach around €500 million, including the transfer fee, bonuses and long-term wages, making the deal “very difficult.”
Haaland, who joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, is under contract at the Etihad until 2034 after signing a new 10-year deal. The Norwegian striker has been relentlessly prolific in England, netting 105 Premier League goals in just 118 appearances.
