Jurgen Klopp would be open to seriously weighing up just two roles in world football — and neither involves a return to Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s name has continued to dominate headlines ever since he walked away from football management in May 2024. Despite stepping back from the touchline, reports suggest the former Liverpool manager would only be tempted by two specific roles if he ever decided to return.

The 58-year-old spent nine hugely successful years at Anfield, turning Liverpool into both Premier League and Champions League winners. Having already enjoyed major success at Borussia Dortmund, it is believed Klopp has no desire to revisit his former clubs. Instead, any comeback would likely involve one of the most prestigious positions in world football.

Klopp sent shockwaves through the sport when he announced his decision to leave Liverpool in January 2024, citing a lack of energy as the driving factor behind his exit.

Klopp ‘Weighing Up’ Real Madrid Move
After six months away from football, Klopp accepted a role as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer, even suggesting at the time that his days in the dugout might be over for good.

However, Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed the German is now “seriously considering” a move to Real Madrid. Klopp was first linked with the Bernabeu vacancy following Xabi Alonso’s surprise departure earlier this week. While he is said to be content and strongly aligned with Red Bull’s long-term vision, the opportunity to manage Los Blancos could still prove difficult to ignore should an approach arrive this summer.

Plettenberg also reported that only one other position could lure Klopp back into management — the Germany national team — but only “if everything fits”. The reduced demands of international football compared to club management could appeal to Klopp as he weighs up his future.

Klopp Reacts to Xabi Alonso Exit
Earlier this week, Klopp was questioned about Alonso’s exit from Real Madrid. Despite ongoing speculation linking him with the role, his response appeared to distance himself from the idea. He said:

“First of all, I think it’s another sign that something isn’t quite right there at the moment. If Xabi Alonso, who over the last two years at Leverkusen has shown what an outstanding coaching talent he is, is then forced to leave Madrid just six months later, it says a lot. On the one hand, there’s no time anymore. On the other, the expectations at Real Madrid are obviously enormous.”
