Tottenham Prepare Massive Bid to Edge Liverpool in Battle for ‘Outrageous’ Talent
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly going head-to-head with Liverpool in the pursuit of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
Spurs are said to be eager to land the Ivory Coast international during the January window and are willing to table a “big offer” should the chance present itself. Liverpool, meanwhile, are understood to be long-term admirers of the attacker, though a move to Anfield this month appears unlikely.
Nixon suggests Diomande could be available for as little as £40 million, despite earlier claims that Leipzig value him at closer to £87 million (€100m). While Liverpool view the winger as a future target, Tottenham could move swiftly to accelerate their interest before the end of the window.
The North London club are preparing to spend after a frustrating first half of the season under Thomas Frank, having won just seven of their 21 league matches. Spurs are close to confirming the arrivals of left-back Souza and former Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, who is undergoing a medical.
Diomande only joined Leipzig from Leganés ahead of the current campaign but has made a strong impression in Germany. The “outrageous” winger has netted six goals and supplied three assists in 14 Bundesliga outings, along with two more goal contributions in the German Cup.
Tottenham already have a working relationship with Leipzig after securing Xavi Simons in a £51 million deal last summer. Their interest in Diomande is unsurprising given the injury crisis that has ravaged Frank’s attacking options.
Spurs have been without Dejan Kulusevski, barely used Dominic Solanke, and seen Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Bergvall miss time. Richarlison was the latest setback after suffering a hamstring injury in the FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa. James Maddison, Destiny Udogie, and Rodrigo Bentancur have also endured fitness issues, with Bentancur sidelined for three months.
Tottenham have also received an approach from Paris FC for winger Mathys Tel but are keen to keep him due to their mounting injury problems. However, GIVEMESPORT’s Fabrizio Romano reports that the French forward is eager to leave in search of regular minutes to strengthen his chances of making France’s World Cup squad.
