Cristian Romero Slams Tottenham Hierarchy After Players Confront Traveling Fans

Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero spoke out on Instagram following his team’s disappointing 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth on Wednesday, which saw tensions flare between Spurs players and their travelling supporters.

Mathys Tel gave Spurs an early lead within five minutes, finishing a low shot beyond Djordje Petrovic. Bournemouth responded through Evanilson in the 17th minute and went ahead via Eli Junior Kroupi in the 36th. Spurs drew level late in the 78th minute thanks to a spectacular bicycle kick from Joao Palhinha, but Antoine Semenyo struck a dramatic 95th-minute winner, seemingly with his final touch of the game.

Frustrations boiled over as Spurs players clashed with fans at full time.

In his statement, Romero apologised to the supporters and acknowledged the team’s responsibility. He also criticized the club hierarchy, saying they rarely speak out in tough times and only appear after victories. “At times like this, it should be other people coming out to speak, but they don’t,” Romero wrote. “We’ll stay here, working, sticking together, and giving our all to turn things around.”

Teammates including Richarlison and Pedro Porro voiced support for his message.

Spurs’ struggles continue after the transition from Ange Postecoglou, under whom they won their first European trophy in May, to Thomas Frank. The loss to Bournemouth extends their winless streak to three games after draws with Brentford and Sunderland. Frank, in charge since July 2025, has managed 30 matches with a points-per-game rate of 1.37.

Spurs’ next fixtures include an FA Cup tie against Aston Villa, a Premier League clash with West Ham at home, and a Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on January 20.
