“Up to them now” – Fabrizio Romano provides positive Liverpool transfer boost amid ongoing discussions

Liverpool are reportedly still in contention to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi this January, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The England defender is entering the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, and interest in his signature is intensifying, with Manchester City currently in talks to strike a deal. However, Romano insists that a move to the Etihad is far from completed, leaving the door open for other suitors — including Liverpool.

Romano reminded fans that Liverpool were close to securing Guehi’s signing last summer, having the player “in their hands” before negotiations collapsed late on. While that outcome was frustrating for Reds supporters, it appears the club has not walked away from their interest.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that Liverpool are actively monitoring the situation and are not ruling themselves out, despite City’s ongoing discussions with Palace. He stressed that the defender’s future remains uncertain, with multiple clubs keeping tabs on developments.

Romano added that although Liverpool believe completing a deal in January would be difficult, they are still involved behind the scenes and remain keen. Bayern Munich have also made enquiries, ensuring the situation stays fluid.

With City’s interest seemingly driven by defensive injuries to Rúben Dias and Joško Gvardiol, Guehi could see immediate opportunities there. However, once those players return, his long-term role may be less secure — a factor that could make Liverpool a more attractive destination for the defender’s future, even amid a challenging season at Anfield.
