Tottenham’s £55,000-a-week forward set to leave after falling out with Frank

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank has admitted he’s finding it hard to enjoy his time in North London, as the club prepares to part ways with another player who has fallen out of favour ahead of the January transfer window. Spurs head into Sunday’s Premier League clash with Sunderland having won just one of their last four league games, adding to the pressure on Frank. When asked if he is enjoying the challenge, the Danish manager was honest.

“The short answer is no,” Frank said. “It’s not easy to enjoy it, but when I step back and see the bigger picture, I realize how much of a learning experience and privilege it is to manage such a big club during a major transitional period. We’ve replaced eight senior leadership figures, and the scale of change in 2025 is unprecedented in the club’s 140-year history. There are many adjustments, but the potential is huge.
“I look forward to the day when I can look back and say it was a tough learning curve, but now I can enjoy it. Right now it feels like one of the hardest stretches, but you keep your head down and keep pushing forward.”

Frank’s job has been further complicated by the absence of key players Dominic Solanke and James Maddison. In this context, Brennan Johnson’s recent move to Crystal Palace raised questions, given Tottenham’s limited attacking options. Nevertheless, Frank has shown he is willing to sideline players who don’t fit his system, and another attacker now looks set to follow Johnson out the door.

Reports from Turkey, cited by Sport Witness, claim that Galatasaray are interested in signing Mathys Tel, with Tottenham reportedly willing to sanction a loan move. The 20-year-old has grown frustrated under Frank, having not started a league game since October and missing the last three matches entirely.
Tottenham are now expected to consider loan offers for the France Under-21 international.

Tel, who earns £55,000 per week, is not one of the club’s highest earners and joined from Bayern Munich after struggling for opportunities there as well.
Despite limited game time, Tel has contributed key goals this season against Leeds United and Manchester United. With Johnson already gone, Spurs could lose another attacking option midway through the campaign.
