West Brom dismiss former Spurs coach Ryan Mason following a record run of defeats

West Brom have confirmed the dismissal of head coach Ryan Mason following a 10th successive away defeat, a 2–1 loss to Leicester on Monday night.

The 34-year-old was appointed last summer after working as a coach at Tottenham, where he had also previously served as interim manager. However, Mason struggled to turn fortunes around at The Hawthorns and departs with the Baggies sitting 18th in the Championship, 10 points adrift of the play-off places. His exit came less than 24 hours after the defeat at Leicester, which marked the club’s worst-ever run of away losses.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the club said: “West Bromwich Albion have today parted company with men’s first team head coach Ryan Mason.

“Assistant head coach Nigel Gibbs and first-team coach/head of performance Sam Pooley have also left the club.

“The club would like to thank Ryan, Nigel and Sam for their efforts and wish them all the best for the future. The process of appointing a new men’s first team head coach and staff is now under way.”

Mason had signed a three-year contract in the summer. West Brom are next in action on Sunday against Swansea in an all-Championship FA Cup third-round tie, before returning to league duty the following Friday at home to Middlesbrough.
