Coventry City and Tottenham are nearing a deal, with an agreement on the transfer close to being finalised.

Coventry City have enjoyed a strong start under Frank Lampard, rising to the top of the Championship with few losses and the most potent attack in the division. Recently, though, their momentum has slowed, with only two victories from their last eight league matches. Even so, Lampard’s tactical tweaks have improved both defence and attack, delivering Coventry’s best early-season points haul in years and keeping them firmly in the promotion picture. Stability carried over from last season has also been central to their progress.

While the club is eager to maintain harmony within a settled squad, a lack of depth remains a concern in certain areas. A small core of players has been required to cover several attacking positions, and injuries have exposed limited alternatives, particularly out wide, reducing Lampard’s rotation options. Strengthening the squad could be vital to sustaining a promotion push in the second half of the season, rather than relying too heavily on the same starters. Currently, Coventry have few natural wide options beyond Ephron Mason-Clark and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, leaving minimal cover when either is sidelined.

Despite the difficulty of adding to a team that has spent much of the campaign at the summit, reinforcing the wide areas has been identified as a key objective. Coventry have been linked with a number of targets, including a possible loan move for Crystal Palace winger Romain Esse.

Another player fitting the profile is Tottenham Hotspur’s Yang Min-Hyeok. The 19-year-old South Korean impressed during a loan spell at QPR in the 2024/25 season before joining Portsmouth on a season-long loan, a move now expected to end early.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Coventry have agreed a loan deal that will see Yang leave Portsmouth to link up with Lampard’s side. BBC journalist Chris Wise reports that Tottenham recalled the winger due to concerns over his limited minutes, with Coventry providing assurances of greater game time. If finalised, it would become Coventry’s second loan signing of a Premier League winger.

Yang came through at Gangwon FC, breaking into the first team in 2024 and registering 12 goals and six assists in 38 K League 1 appearances. Those displays earned him the league’s Young Player of the Year award before he signed for Tottenham in July 2024, officially completing the move in January 2025.

Since then, he has continued to build senior experience through loan spells, contributing goals at club level while progressing through South Korea’s youth ranks and making his senior international debut in 2025. His next chapter now looks set to unfold at Coventry City.
