Tottenham step up pursuit of Monaco standout Maghnes Akliouche
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly targeting Monaco’s highly regarded French attacker Maghnes Akliouche, with TEAMtalk naming the 23-year-old as a player of strong interest.
Spurs are understood to be looking to strengthen after a difficult start to life under Thomas Frank in North London. While optimism followed last season’s Europa League triumph despite a 17th-place league finish, this campaign has proven far tougher, with Tottenham currently sitting 13th in the Premier League.
A growing injury list — including James Maddison, Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski — has depleted Frank’s attacking options and highlighted the need for added creativity and firepower in the final third. Tottenham’s forward line has often lacked a cutting edge, increasing pressure on the club to act.
Despite heavy spending on attacking reinforcements last summer, none have consistently delivered goals, pushing Spurs to explore alternatives in the transfer market. Akliouche has now emerged as a leading candidate.
TEAMtalk reports that Tottenham are prioritising the signing of a forward in January and view the Monaco star as a high-upside option. The club have been monitoring him closely since failing to secure his signature last summer, with scouts in attendance at Stade Louis II during Monaco’s recent 3–1 defeat to Lyon.
Akliouche remains under contract with the Ligue 1 side until 2028, and Monaco are said to value him at £50 million or more amid growing interest from Spurs. The versatile attacker has registered three goals and five assists in 22 appearances this season. Overall, he has contributed 41 goals and assists in 118 senior games for Monaco and has also scored once in five caps for France.
After providing 12 assists last season, the Frenchman has demonstrated his ability to influence matches in advanced roles while also dropping deeper to link play — a quality that could prove valuable for a Tottenham side struggling to transition the ball from midfield to attack under Frank.
With Spurs enduring a sharp downturn in form and their hopes of European qualification beginning to fade, the addition of a player like Akliouche could help reignite their campaign and provide momentum for the second half of the season.
