Fabrizio Romano gives his trademark “here we go” as Liverpool seal centre-back signing

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Austria Wien’s highly rated teenage centre-back Ifeanyi Ndukwe. The 17-year-old is set to move to Anfield this summer, with Romano’s trademark “here we go” indicating the deal is effectively sealed, even though an official announcement is still pending.

Posting on X, Romano said:
“Liverpool agree deal to sign 17-year-old Austrian centre back Ifeanyi Ndukwe for summer 2026, here we go! Agreement in place, valid from July. Austria Wien accepted the proposal, as @AlexHuber81 reported. Seen as huge talent, Ndukwe said yes to the #LFC project.”

Romano’s description of Ndukwe as a “huge talent” suggests Liverpool have secured a very promising prospect. While the youngster may not feature immediately in Arne Slot’s first team, his potential is clear, and the move offers him the chance to develop alongside elite players and coaches.

As an Austrian youth international, Ndukwe has already shown significant promise, and Liverpool’s track record of nurturing young talent could prove ideal for his growth. With defensive depth an area of concern, the club may view him as a long-term option—possibly even a future successor to Virgil van Dijk—though further defensive reinforcements are still expected, especially with Ibrahima Konaté nearing the end of his contract.
