Tottenham supporters erupt in fury at “one-trick pony” after “absolutely awful” display against Brentford

Tottenham supporters were left angry with Mohammed Kudus following his underwhelming display in the 0-0 stalemate against Brentford on New Year’s Day.

Spurs began 2026 with a dull draw in West London, a result that only intensified the pressure on Thomas Frank as concerns grow over the team’s flat and uninspiring performances. Brentford came closest to scoring through second-half opportunities for Keane Lewis-Potter and Igor Thiago, while Tottenham produced just 0.86 expected goals across the entire match.

Kudus had impressed against the Bees in December when Spurs claimed a 2-0 home win, but his outing at the Gtech Community Stadium highlighted many of the issues currently plaguing Tottenham’s attack.

With Spurs now sitting 12th in the Premier League after managing only two wins from their last 10 matches, Frank’s position is reportedly under threat unless results improve.

The Ghanaian failed to register a goal or assist against Brentford, and unlike his energetic performance last month, his overall contribution was minimal. Tottenham managed only three shots on target as a team and did not carve out a single clear-cut chance.

Despite struggling, Kudus played the full 90 minutes. Operating on the right wing, he failed to create a chance, had just two touches inside the Brentford box, and saw his strongest asset — dribbling — largely neutralised. He completed only two of six attempted take-ons, was dispossessed five times, and lost 10 of his 13 ground duels, the highest tally of any player in the match.

Fans were quick to voice their frustration online, branding his display ineffective and costly. With Brennan Johnson close to joining Crystal Palace, some supporters felt Spurs lacked an alternative from the bench to replace Kudus during the game.

Although Kudus has been an important figure since arriving from West Ham last summer, his recent output has dipped sharply, with just one goal and one assist across his last 11 league appearances. Many fans took to social media after the match to vent their anger, with one describing him as “a one-trick pony whose trick no longer works.”
