There may be fresh concern for Liverpool after one key player was forced to sit out training at a crucial moment. Supporters will be particularly eager to see Florian Wirtz begin the year on a high, as the German has been growing in confidence and influence with each passing week.

Wirtz scored his first goal for the club in the weekend win over Wolves, a moment that hinted at his huge potential. However, a report from the Liverpool Echo claims he missed Tuesday’s training session for unknown reasons and was absent from the official photos.

He was not the only one missing, with Wataru Endo and Joe Gomez also absent, alongside long-term injuries including Giovanni Leoni and Alexander Isak.

Should Wirtz be unavailable, Cody Gakpo could be an option on the left following his recent return from injury, although he is unlikely to be ready for a full 90 minutes. If both Wirtz and Gakpo are unable to start, Federico Chiesa may be one of the few remaining alternatives.

Chiesa featured against Wolves but struggled to make an impact, prompting some fans to suggest a return to the bench. However, given his limited game time, it is understandable that sharpness is lacking, and he may need a consistent run of matches before being judged too harshly.
