Fabrizio Romano reveals Tottenham are still pushing to sign the thrilling £87m forward.

Tottenham Hotspur are still firmly in the hunt for one of Europe’s most exciting young wide players.

Reports suggest Spurs are eager to make a major attacking signing in the next transfer window, with a standout 19-year-old currently lighting up the Bundesliga high on their shortlist. The North London side have been linked with RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, who has registered seven goals and four assists in all competitions this season, and talks over a potential deal are said to be at an advanced stage.

While journalist Dean Jones recently claimed Tottenham were likely to miss out on Diomande, describing him as an overly ambitious target, Fabrizio Romano has since provided a more optimistic update. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano confirmed that Spurs have not ended their interest in the Ivory Coast international.

He explained that Thomas Frank’s side are among several clubs keeping a close watch on Diomande, with Tottenham scouts recently dispatched to Germany to monitor his progress. However, securing his signature would not come cheap.

Spurs are expected to face stiff competition, including from Liverpool, who reportedly view Diomande as a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah. Leipzig are also believed to be demanding around €100m (£87m) for the winger in January — a fee that would smash Tottenham’s current transfer record, set by the £65m signing of Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth 18 months ago.
