Salah’s agent confirms just two possible futures after Liverpool star is approached by European heavyweight
Turkish heavyweights Fenerbahce made contact with Mohamed Salah’s representatives earlier this week, and the Liverpool star’s agent has now made it clear that only two possible outcomes remain as the situation edges closer to a resolution.
Salah’s future at Anfield is still uncertain following his fiery remarks earlier this month. The Egyptian winger reacted angrily after being left out of the starting XI for a third game in a row, although he later apologised to his teammates for his reaction. He was subsequently excluded from Liverpool’s Champions League squad against Inter Milan, but returned to the fold days later for the Brighton match.
While tensions around the issue have eased and Salah has since travelled to AFCON duty with Egypt, unresolved matters remain behind the scenes.
It’s understood that Salah and his camp have informed Liverpool that he has no desire to become a rotational option at the club. Liverpool’s decision not to pursue Antoine Semenyo suggests the club are not actively pushing Salah towards the exit by recruiting a potential long-term replacement.
The Athletic recently reported that figures close to Liverpool expect Salah to remain at Anfield beyond the January transfer window.
However, reports from Turkey claim Fenerbahce recently explored whether Salah would consider a move to Turkey. The club is said to have contacted his representatives earlier this week, but Salah’s main agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, reportedly informed Fenerbahce that only two destinations are on the table — and neither involves another European or English club.
According to the report, Issa told Fenerbahce officials: “He will either stay at Liverpool or move to Saudi Arabia.”
As previously stated, The Athletic believe Salah will remain at Liverpool until the end of the season, ruling out a January switch to the Middle East. But with Salah turning 34 this summer and entering the final year of his contract, the off-season could represent an ideal moment for all parties to part ways. The Daily Mail has also suggested a summer exit remains a genuine possibility.
Merseyside correspondent Lewis Steele, currently in Morocco covering AFCON, wrote that there is a growing belief Salah’s tensions with Liverpool are not fully resolved. He added that Saudi clubs are on standby should Salah show any indication he wants to leave. While January is considered unlikely, many feel a summer move is one to watch closely.
Why a summer exit could benefit everyone
Offloading Salah in the summer would allow Liverpool to secure a significant transfer fee for a player approaching 34. If his recent struggles indicate a genuine decline rather than a temporary dip, it would become increasingly difficult to justify guaranteeing him a starting role.
A sale would also eliminate potential friction caused by Salah’s reaction to being benched, while giving him the chance to remain a regular starter elsewhere — particularly in Saudi Arabia. Liverpool would also free up Salah’s substantial £400,000-per-week wages.
From a legacy perspective, a summer departure would enable Salah to leave on better terms, rather than under a cloud if he were to exit mid-season. Importantly, Liverpool would still benefit from his services for the remainder of the current campaign.
With Alexander Isak sidelined for up to three months due to a fractured leg and ankle injury, Arne Slot will need every available attacking option to help rescue what has been a disappointing season.
