Liverpool make shock £17.4m bid for forward known for “outstanding” gesture this season

 

 

Injuries and inconsistent form have increased the urgency for Liverpool to reinforce their squad in the January transfer window, especially amid uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future.

Alexander Isak is expected to miss several months due to a broken leg, leaving the Reds short in attacking options. According to reports from Spain, Liverpool have submitted a £17.4m bid for Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi, a move that reportedly caught the Bundesliga club by surprise. Dortmund, however, value the 23-year-old at £65.4m, highlighting a significant gap between the two figures. It remains unclear whether a transfer could take place in January or next summer.

Adeyemi is highly regarded for his speed and finishing, having scored 32 goals and contributed 22 assists in 129 appearances for Dortmund. Beyond his talent, Liverpool also prioritize signing players with strong character. Earlier this season, Adeyemi was praised by referee Daniel Siebert for a fair play gesture against VfL Wolfsburg, voluntarily putting the ball out of play to avoid taking advantage of an opponent’s injury.

At 23, Adeyemi is still relatively young, and he could strengthen Liverpool’s attack, primarily as a right winger but also capable of playing on the left or as a centre-forward. He may even be viewed as a potential long-term successor to Salah, although the Reds arguably need a more elite wide attacker to fully replace the Egyptian.

That said, it seems unlikely Dortmund will accept Liverpool’s current offer, meaning negotiations may require a middle-ground agreement.
