Real Madrid prepare Liverpool double raid with Alonso’s top targets revealed
After snapping up Liverpool fan favourite Trent Alexander-Arnold earlier this year, Real Madrid are reportedly considering another bold raid on Anfield — this time for Florian Wirtz and Ibrahima Konaté. Xabi Alonso’s Madrid side have endured a difficult campaign, falling behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race, with the prospect of surrendering another league crown to their fiercest rivals looming large.
Determined to reverse their fortunes and reinforce key areas of the squad, the Spanish giants are said to be weighing up an ambitious double swoop for Liverpool duo Wirtz and Konaté, according to Defensa Central. VfB Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller is also understood to be on Madrid’s shortlist.
While Alonso is aware that landing all three targets would be extremely challenging, he is keen to explore the possibility and see what can be achieved. Konaté, in particular, has long been linked with a move away from Anfield, with Real Madrid frequently mentioned as a potential destination.
The French defender is due to be out of contract next summer, and negotiations over a new deal with Arne Slot’s side have reportedly stalled, increasing the likelihood of an exit. Should Madrid intensify their pursuit, Konaté could be tempted — much like Alexander-Arnold was.
Wirtz’s situation, however, appears more complex. The German midfielder arrived at Liverpool in a high-profile move last summer but has struggled to adapt to the Premier League, enduring an inconsistent season as he attempts to rediscover the form that once made him one of Europe’s most sought-after talents.
A reunion with Alonso could reignite Wirtz’s brilliance. The Madrid boss played a pivotal role in unlocking his potential at Bayer Leverkusen, and the pair share a strong bond. Real Madrid also have a proven track record of luring elite players away from Premier League clubs.
Even so, while a move for Konaté seems more achievable, prising Wirtz away from Anfield looks far less likely. Liverpool are unwilling to see their major investment depart after just one season, especially given the midfielder’s age, talent, and long-term potential. As things stand, Wirtz is expected to remain with the Reds and continue his journey at Anfield.
