“50-50” – Arne Slot uncertain if Liverpool pair will be fit in time for Wolves clash at Anfield
Arne Slot has shared the latest injury news on a number of Liverpool players ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash with Wolves.
Liverpool head into the festive period with several players unavailable, with Alexander Isak the most recent addition to the injury list after suffering a fractured fibula. Slot confirmed the striker is expected to be out for at least a couple of months. Alongside that long-term setback, Conor Bradley, Cody Gakpo, Joe Gomez and Wataru Endo are also sidelined, although there is some hope that one or two could return in time for Wolves’ visit to Anfield next Saturday.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Slot gave an update on the squad’s condition. As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, he said: “Conor is 50/50. He’s not training with us today or tomorrow. On Friday we’ll assess whether he can be part of the squad. Joe won’t be available, and Wata won’t be either. Cody is in a similar situation to Conor.”
There was more positive news regarding Florian Wirtz, with his late withdrawal against Tottenham explained as cramp rather than an injury concern.
With Gomez ruled out of the Wolves game, Slot will be keeping a close eye on Bradley’s recovery to see if the Northern Ireland international can make it back in time. It remains a tight call for the 22-year-old, though the return of Jeremie Frimpong at least provides a natural option at right-back.
Gakpo’s situation looks more encouraging, with Slot suggesting the forward could be available for the next match. Given Liverpool’s limited attacking options due to Isak’s injury and Mohamed Salah’s absence at the Africa Cup of Nations, the Dutchman’s return would be a major boost.
Saturday’s fixture comes during a brief lull in Liverpool’s schedule, as it is their only match in the final 11 days of December. However, a demanding January lies ahead, with the Reds set to play at least nine games.
That intense start to 2026 will further stretch the squad, making fitness crucial. Slot will be hoping all involved against Wolves emerge unscathed, while fingers are crossed that Bradley and Gakpo can win their races against time to be fit and strengthen Liverpool’s options.
