Eddie McGuire’s former sports broadcasting protégé, Duncan McKenzie-McHarg, has died unexpectedly in Los Angeles at the age of 41, prompting an outpouring of tributes.

Veteran Australian sports broadcaster Duncan McKenzie-McHarg has died in Los Angeles at the age of 41.

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, McKenzie-McHarg was found deceased after a fall from a building in downtown LA, with official records noting his body was discovered on a rooftop.

The Stan Sport presenter built a long career in television across Australia and the United States, relocating to America several years ago for work.

He began his media journey in January 2010 as a reporter on Triple M’s Hot Breakfast with Eddie McGuire, where he spent nearly three years. He later worked as a presenter for Channel Seven and Channel Ten, before moving to the US in 2017 as Fox Sports Australia’s correspondent, a role he held until May 2022.

In August 2022, McKenzie-McHarg secured what he described as his dream job, becoming a Los Angeles–based sports presenter for Stan, a position he held until his death.

Throughout his career, he worked alongside high-profile figures such as Australian tennis great Todd Woodbridge and American star Madison Keys, and interviewed global sporting icons including Shaquille O’Neal, Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

His sudden death has deeply affected the sports communities in both Australia and the US. He was widely admired for his energetic, engaging on-air style and his ability to connect with elite athletes.

Fans have flooded social media with tributes, with one writing, “RIP Duncan. We all love you so much,” while another asked, “Why, just why?”

McKenzie-McHarg previously said his passion for sports presenting was inspired by watching Eddie McGuire on television. In a 2023 interview with Radio Today, he said he admired how presenters could discuss sport in a lively, almost theatrical way, praising McGuire’s speed, versatility and ability to balance humour with serious reporting.

He is survived by his family.
